questions?

CEREMONY/RECEPTION-RELATED:

Q: What is the dress code?

A: The dress code for the ceremony and reception is cocktail attire. For ladies, this means a dress (long or short) or jumpsuit, and for the men, a suit or nice pants with a button-down shirt/jacket. Please no jeans or shorts!

  • For the welcome party, think a step down from this with “casual cocktail.” Beachy dresses are great for ladies, and shorts with polos/button-downs for guys work well.

Q: Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?

A: Weather permitting, all activities will be outside. Weather in the Bahamas in April is gorgeous, with temperatures in the 70s/80s, and because we're right on the water, we can expect a nice breeze.

Q: Can I bring my kids or a plus one?

A: Due to space constraints, only those explicitly listed on your save the date/invitation are invited. Please leave the kiddos at home!

RSVP-RELATED:

Q: When is the final RSVP due?

A: Instructions for final, formal RSVPs will be included in the formal invitations going out in December. The deadline for final RSVPs will be February 12, 2024.

Q: Do I need to mail back an RSVP card if I RSVP online?

A: Nope! You can pick one or the other - online via our website or mailed-in - depending on what is easiest for you.

BAHAMAS/INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL-RELATED:

Q: Do I need to exchange currency for the Bahamas?

A: No, the Bahamas accepts US dollars, so no exchange is necessary. They accept most major credit cards and cash, but most places prefer cash. Grocery stores/liquor stores in particular are cash-preferred! (Note: if you use cash, you may get change in Bahamian money. Make sure to use this in the Bahamas before you come home!)

Q: Do I need a special license to drive in the Bahamas?

A: No, renting a car in the Bahamas can be done with a US drivers license. But remember that you will have to drive on the LEFT side of the road!

Q: Is there easily accessible transportation?

A: There are taxis, but no Uber/Lyft. Because of this, we'd highly recommend renting a car. We will be coordinating transportation from Pineapple Fields + French Leave for the wedding.

Q: Is there any outlet conversion?

A: No. Unlike in Europe, there is no conversion needed for power outlets - your regular US chargers/electronics will work fine!

Q: What is the price range of restaurants/groceries/etc.?

A: Because almost everything is imported, food and drinks are more expensive than in the US. Groceries especially run 1.5/2x the price of what we're used to here, and selection is typically more limited. Restaurant pricing varies based on the restaurant, but all are generally pricier than what we'd expect at home (think, $$-$$$ range on Yelp!).

Travel Details

The Islands of the Bahamas require a valid passport for entry into the country.

Passports must be valid for the time of entry and departure. Passport renewals and applications are currently on an 8-11 week timeline, so we recommend starting the process as soon as possible. See all the details at the U.S. Dept. of State travel site below.

FLIGHT INFO

Fly into one of the three airports on the island:

All wedding events are in Governor's Harbour. If flying into ELH or RSD, we'd highly recommend renting a car (additional details are below). Depending on number of people flying into these airports, transportation may be coordinated for groups.

Alternate Travel Option:

For a more cost-effective option, consider flying into Nassau (NAS). From there, you can take an inexpensive flight on BahamasAir, Pineapple Air or Southern Air to RSD or GHB. Please note: many of these smaller airlines have limited operating schedules and may not fly every day of the week.

  • North Eleuthera Airport (ELH) - 1.5 hours from wedding activities
    • Note: This is the airport with the most flights and the most affordable options.
  • Governor's Harbour (GHB) - 15 minutes from wedding activities
  • Rock Sound Airport (RSD) - 30 minutes from wedding activities

ACCOMMODATION INFO

Pineapple Fields is a group of condos about 10 minutes away from La Bougainvillea and has a one- and two-bedroom rentals on the beach.

French Leave Resort is a Marriot Autograph Collection hotel on the water, about 15 minutes from La Bougainvillea.

If you'd prefer to rent a house, we'd recommend going through Eleuthera Vacation Rentals or searching on VRBO. Mackenzie also has a list of rentals - please text her if you want help!

car rentals

We'd highly recommend renting a car, as Eleuthera is a bit more remote and taxis aren't as common. Ubers/Lyfts are not available in Eleuthera.

Rental cars are available on Eleuthera, but are managed by private companies/owners rather than large rental car companies that we have in the US (e.g., no Hertz here, just the people listed below!). Most rental cars in the Bahamas are also well-loved and accustomed to the rocky streets of the island. Most rental companies accept credit card, but be sure to confirm when reserving your car.

In the Bahamas, they drive on the left side of the road, so if you rent a car, keep this in mind!
